The Dance of Pythia
Women inhabit a long tradition of being intuitively wired to the etheric and spiritual realm - the very nature of yin demands it. And yet, in these patriarchal manifestations of time, we often talk ourselves out of these natural gifts, attempting to resolve such feelings and premonitions with "logic". We have all but forgotten how to release ourselves to the dance of our soul's awareness.
The earliest oracular seeresses, known as the sibyls of antiquity, were known only through legend and prophesied at certain holy sites, under the divine influence of a deity, originally— at Delphi and Pessinos— one of the chthonic deities. Later in antiquity, sibyls wandered from place to place.
Pythia, commonly known as the Oracle of Delphi, was the priestess at the Temple of Apollo at Delphi, located on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, beneath the Castalian Spring. The Pythia was widely credited for her prophecies inspired by Apollo. The Delphic Oracle was the most prestigious and authoritative oracle among the Greeks, and was one of the best-documented religious institutions of the classical Greeks, being noted by historians and philosophers such as Aristotle, Clement of Alexandria, Diogenes, Euripides, Herodotus, Sophocles, and Xenophon. Her archetype in the collective consciousness remains fixed, and enables us to tether our own inward gaze intuitively to her form.
In this portrait, Pythia is poised at the unseen precipice, dancing the vision unfolding before her. Her gaze does not waver, she is unconcerned with the opinions or beliefs of others as she has set her eye on the otherworld, and sinuously prepares her body to receive it. Her demeanor reminds us of the grace and beauty we possess by birthright as seeresses of the unknown, and to step in time to our own ancient rhythms which will no longer be denied.
Hidden images are incorporated for the viewer to spiritually discover on her own. The original print was created at an astrologically favorable time with magickally appropriate aspects. This art works as a talisman to incorporate her intuitive energies to awaken the dormant seeress within you.
It is, in and of itself, a unique and one of a kind work of art which will delight and inspire you for years to come.
